To Persuade and Connect
To Persuade and Connect
Good afternoon, noble souls.
The purpose
of this blog is to share the many lessons I have learned about persuasion and
communication.
We will
begin with how to write well.
“I began life as a dumb kid. My first memory was of my maternal grandmother feeding me porridge and Chinese sausage.
I was an unhappy child, feeling isolated in the home. It was not until I met peers of diverse backgrounds that I began to flourish intellectually. I had friends and I had school, and I was happy.”
The first lesson is to think through what you mean. If you must practice, practice. If you must write, write. Even improvisational actors undergo much training and preparation to be spontaneous.
I wrote the quoted
passage in the span of 3 minutes. Edits were made on the fly, as I noticed a
better way to express a thought. I am editing even these words as we speak. The original draft of this blog, though
communicative, was not optimal in expressing what I intended to express to the
audience.
To
paraphrase the Broadway hit * “Audience. What is an audience? It is those who grow
from what you see. Internet, you majestic technology, what will you bring to
me? A place where even starving isolants can bring forth community. If I
express my thought… is this what you will mean to me?”
Lesson 2:
have fun. Communication is a lifelong effort and just like aged ethanol, only
gets better with time.
Stand true,
noble soul. Speak the words you must let grow in this life.

a fantastic show. Buy the CD
